My Time at A Sign in Space

Between 2023 and 2025, under the name Luna, I actively participated as a decoder and citizen scientist in A Sign in Space, an interdisciplinary project conceived by artist Daniela de Paulis and developed in collaboration with the SETI Institute, the European Space Agency, the Green Bank Observatory and INAF.

Within the project's Discord community, The Human Message emerged: a personal research path developed in a shared context, later evolving into Symbiosis, focused on interspecies communication.

  • The Human Message

What should a message sent into space contain in order to honestly represent the human species?
And even if it were possible to identify a representative message, what characteristics should it have in order to be self-contained, autonomous, and capable of sustaining a silent conversation with another technological species?

  • Symbiosis

The theoretical framework for a formal machine for interspecies communication.
The system starts from a hypothesis: mutual understanding is impossible without a shared context.
For this reason, Symbiosis does not attempt to transmit predetermined meanings or impose a human communication system on another species. Instead, it seeks to create the conditions for a shared context to emerge through interaction.
